  • Majic Quest photographed at the Spot-O-Faith Farm and Equine Rescue. This two year old Appaloosa filly was rescued from a 93 year old breeder that was no longer to care for her. The damage to her legs was caused when she was caught in a barbed wire fence (about a month before being brought to the rescue) and was left to heal on her own. She will be rehabilitated then available for adoption. Equine photography by Michael Kloth.

  • Continuing with the theme of avoiding the camera for my self portrait, in this image I used motion blur to obscure my face. I showed myself doing schoolwork on the computer. I closed the blinds to make the primary light source the computer monitor and I framed myself against the brighter light coming from the hallway so that I wouldn't be completely lost in the frame. This portrait took some experimenting because the camera was on a tripod and I had to set the frame and exposure without being able to see how the composition would look in the view finder. Ultimately, I think the image is okay but it would have worked better had I used a shallow depth of field because the background is a distraction.

  • At the homeowner's suggestion, I then went to a third location. I mention that only because it emphasizes the point that sometimes two heads are better than one. This image was taken from a higher vantage point with a telephoto lens. I wouldn't have thought about the position without the suggestion but it is my favorite because it not only includes their decorations, but it also includes a view of Tucson at night in the background which provides a very nice backdrop to their home.

  • Infrared (IR) image - View from the Catalina Highway. This image was made around 6000 feet (above sea level). I like the dead branch in the foreground because it provides a visual anchor for the image. I also like the vibrant blue color of the foliage.

  • This is similar to the photo used as part of my original logo. I eventually changed it to a sitting Spring silhouette because someone suggested that the jumping dog could be viewed as a bit aggressive. I wasn't sure I agreed that it gave my business a negative connotation but I liked the sitting Spring version just as well.
